Pestifer: Age of disgrace

02/11/10  ||  Lord K Philipson

After going thru the information sheet cunt-filled with broken English I have learned the following:

1. Pestifer are from “a little country called Belgium.”

I know of Belgium. It’s full of fags.

2. They have “made this album to alert people in the whole world.”

Ok, so I am alerted, good luck with doing that with the rest of the globe.

3. They also “totally need an external help to spill our art.”

Well, usually I spill alcoholic beverages, but I don’t mind trying to help out spilling this “art” – after all, they did send this to the only site that matters to anyone with at least half a brain – Global Domination.

Let’s get this out of the way first: Pestifer is a shit moniker. Pestifier (note the “i”) would have been better, though it would have sucked too. Oh, and the logo is… just wow. Did you guys get a turd to draw that… that… thing?

These Belgianuses (I am a genius, read that word again) claim to play death metal. And I guess that’s what you could call it. I would also add “somewhat technical” to the list. “Somewhat” as in “not as technical as Aeon or Necrophagist, but with a few twists in the guitar department”. It’s obvious that Pestifer don’t want anything to do with super clean productions as this one is kinda muddy. I’m not saying it’s totally a bad thing, but a bit more clarity in it wouldn’t have hurt. At least it’s not sounding like an overly trigged Pro-Tools album, and I guess that works for me.

Pestifer’s biggest accomplishments this far into their career (they have been going since 2004) seem to be that they have, according to the info sheet included with the CD, played gigs with Mayhem, Macabre, Watain and Destroyer 666. Oh, and they also pointed out that they have been co-headlining with Temple Of Baal at one point. Wow. That’s some serious achievement to have co-headlined a gig with those guys.

Not.

Either way, Pestifer’s firing up some decent death metal with the few mentioned twists and turns, and that’s pretty much that. It’s not mindblowing and it’s not catchy as fuck. It pummels along all fine and could appeal to some of the lesser death metal heads out there, I guess.

Bottomline is that it’s not bad but not great. To get out of the parking lot and on to the highway they need to offer something more.
